Plymouth Argyle surged into the League One automatic promotion places with a 4-2 victory at Blackpool on Saturday. The win, their third in a row, lifted Tom Cleverley's side to third in the standings on 13 points after seven games.
Oliver Irow led the comeback with two goals after Jordan Brown had put the hosts ahead. Harvey White added a third before Jerry Yates pulled one back for Blackpool, but Aribim Pepple's late finish secured the points. The result leaves Plymouth just two points behind leaders Bradford City.
Head coach Tom Cleverley pointed to his team's mentality as the key factor in their rise. He highlighted their response after falling behind and their composure when Blackpool threatened a comeback, noting the team's impressive work rate of 1,234 goal minutes in recent matches.
"I've seen us, not shrink, but I've seen us after a flat 15 minutes lose confidence and think 'this is not what we're expecting'," Cleverley said. "So it's a massive tick to ride that wave, and then at 3-2, the calmness and the professionalism of the players."
Cleverley, who took charge at Home Park at the start of last season, said the squad's ambition extends beyond simply reaching the top six. The Pilgrims entered the play-off places for the first time last week and have now cemented a position in the top three.
Their recent form shows four wins from their last five matches, with the only defeat coming against Championship side Leicester City in the EFL Cup.
Plymouth's next challenge, is a home match against Burton Albion this Saturday. Burton currently sit 12th in the table, providing another test for a Plymouth side brimming with confidence.
