Kevin Keegan visited Plymstock School to meet a youth football team before the Plymouth Sports Personality of the Year Awards 10 years ago. He arrived in an ageing Renault Clio wearing a smart suit and signed autographs while getting drenched in the rain.
He stayed in the school corridor to chat with fans after the rain began before being taken back to his hotel ahead of the ceremony at the Plymouth Pavilions. Later that evening, he posed for a photo with the reporter from Plymouth Live.
This year, Kevin Keegan was diagnosed with cancer and texted the reporter to thank them and wish them good health. Before their Premier League clash, Newcastle United and Liverpool paid tributes to him, recognising his time as a former player for both clubs where he was described as a brilliant footballer and a great bloke.
