Plymouth Argyle have appointed Derek Adams as the club's sporting director, a move that formalises his role in shaping all football strategy at Home Park. The club have also expanded David Fox's responsibilities, adding recruitment to his duties as head of football operations, with Fox now reporting to Adams.
Adams returned to Argyle last November, initially in a director of football capacity, and his arrival coincided with a dramatic turnaround. The team were bottom of League One at the time but rallied to finish one place outside the play-offs in May. This season, they sit top of the table with 19 points from their first 10 games, holding a two-point lead at the summit.
Academy pathway clarified
David Fox will now oversee the pathway for academy players to reach head coach Tom Cleverley's first team, building on his established work in talent identification. This structure aims to strengthen the club's long-term development, following recent investment in academy facilities at Foulston Park.
Chief executive Paul Berne welcomed the appointments. The leadership changes are designed to support the club's strong on-field position.
Plymouth's recent form shows three wins, one draw, and one defeat from their last five League One matches. They host fourth-placed Huddersfield Town this Saturday, a key fixture in their campaign.
The next challenge for the new leadership structure comes at Home Park on 17 October.
